Radio Announcement By Vidkun Quisling3:13
Historical Context
Radio was a means of seizing authority during Norway’s invasion. The National Archives records German control of the broadcaster on 9 April 1940 and Quisling’s coup announcement that evening. Norwegian broadcasts from London and Boston later provided listeners with information beyond the occupation’s controlled airwaves.
Recording details
The supplied Radio Announcement label has not been matched to the 9 April speech. The speaker, date, completeness and any later editing of this particular file remain unverified.

The Formation Of SS Nordland In Oslo, Norway 30.1.194130:50
Historical Context
An oath ceremony gives this title a documented point of comparison. Store norske leksikon identifies Nordland volunteers taking the oath on 30 January 1941, with Quisling, Himmler and Terboven present. Recruitment promoted struggle against Britain, although the regiment later served on the Eastern Front.
Recording details
The source documents an oath ceremony, not an authenticated recording or necessarily a formal foundation on that date. The supplied Formation wording is retained as a label, without transferring the caption’s identities to this audio.

NS Leader Quisling, Reichskommissar Terboven And Reichsfuhrer SS Himmler Speak23:29
Historical Context
The three names in this label bring together Norwegian collaboration, German occupation government and SS leadership. Himmler led the SS from 1929 to 1945 and bore central responsibility for organizing the murder of Europe’s Jews. Such speeches require a history of power and persecution, alongside any account of military ceremony.
Recording details
The title’s speaker attributions have not been authenticated. Neither the source biography nor the adjacent oath-ceremony item proves that these voices belong to one event or an unedited original recording.

Behind the sound
Broadcasting, recruitment and occupied Norway
Broadcasting became an instrument of occupation. Norway’s National Archives records that German forces took control of national broadcasting on 9 April 1940 and that Quisling announced his coup that evening. Radio remained under Nazi control during the occupation. This history explains the supplied announcement label without identifying the file as that particular broadcast.
The Nordland label needs similar care. An archival photograph shows volunteers taking an oath on 30 January 1941 with Quisling, Himmler and Terboven present. That provides a ceremony comparison, but does not verify the filename’s formation claim or the voices in the audio. Nordland recruitment initially invoked a campaign against Britain; the regiment later served on the Eastern Front.
These leadership names also carry a history of persecution and mass murder. Quisling’s regime enabled antisemitic arrests and confiscations, and Norwegian police helped gather Jews for deportation to Auschwitz, where most were murdered. Himmler’s SS leadership was central to the Nazi murder of Europe’s Jews. This context is essential beside the speech labels, without implying that the files document those crimes.
Presented for critical historical study. Nazi ideology, persecution and violence are not endorsed.
